I don’t usually post emotional stuff, but yesterday’s tornado has had me thinking. Seeing places you visited a few weeks ago be flattened to the ground or damaged beyond belief is an intense feeling. It’s difficult to believe all of this happened just 30 minutes away.

I am thankful that despite all of the devastation so close by, I am blessed with a roof over my head, a wonderful family, & several people who were thoughtful enough to text/call/message to make sure Laker & I were safe. My friends & family in Moore are all safe, & my state is pulling together in this time of tragedy. I’ve seen a state that has to turn away volunteers because so many people want to help. I’ve seen donation sites being listed all around the state - from nearby areas like Edmond to my hometown of Ponca City. I’ve seen people giving what they can - from McAlister’s donations of free box lunches to relief volunteers, to Kevin Durant’s $1 million donation. I’ve seen voices of support from around the country - from the speeches of President Obama, to the Tweets of celebrities like Lucy Hale, to the pledges of support from bands like Blink-182, to the voices of my out-of-state friends.

It’s a reminder that there is always help, & always hope, even in the darkest times. My favorite scripture is Psalm 34:18, & it says, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted & saves those who are crushed in spirit.” This has gotten me through every difficult time in my life, from my high school dramas to my heart condition (where it became very literal) to my dad’s time in the hospital. I hope & pray that during this tragedy, all those affected will remember that the Lord is near, & He will save. He is not the cause of this devastation, but the Rescuer & Healer. We cannot imagine the pain some of these people are going through, but there is Someone who can heal it all.

Please continue to pray for all of those involved.

The elementary school search has been changed from search & rescue to search & recovery. They’re expecting 24 victims at the school alone. That’s not to mention the rest of the 30-mile path the tornado devastated. I’m so sad & sick to my stomach. It’s so hard to believe this is happening 30 minutes away from me. Please be praying for those involved.

Just got confirmation that my friend is okay (: Please keep praying for the kids & staff trapped underneath the debris of that elementary school.

They’re saying there are about 75 kids plus teachers & staff trapped under the debris at a school that was flattened by the tornado in Moore. Please, please pray.

Just sick about all of the devastation from the tornado in Moore. Heard from my family there & they’re safe, but I have a dear friend there that no one can get in touch with. Please be praying for him & everyone else involved, as well as safety from the storms still forming.
